There are so many things that we need to do in our day. There are also a lot of things that we want to do during our day. Standing in front of a mirror primping is most likely the last thing you want to spend your precious time doing. We find ourselves shelving self-care and scrambling to get from point A to point B as quickly as possible. This leaves us feeling neglected and deflated. What if you could have it both ways? If you start your day off strong, and spend your time with intention, you can have your cake and eat it too.

Today, we are going to talk about creating and perfecting a five minute face. Spring is the perfect time to refresh your look with vibrant colors and a new routine. All of this may sound overwhelming but just breathe and take it slow. The five minutes you spend creating your daily look is not the time to play around with new techniques. You want to go with what you know and what you are comfortable with. The goal is to get the most out of your time. Once you master your five minute face you will be amazed at how effortless it can be and how much time you can save.
First, something that we are just going to touch on is skin care. An effective skin care routine that you can stick to is the first step to the five minute face. Having flawless skin is nice but that’s not the goal. The goal is to get your skin to it’s best version. Most of us get a pimple every once and awhile. Maybe you have oily skin or dry patches. Focus on skin care products that are targeted to tend to the areas of your skin that you would like to transform. Not sure where to start? One brand that continues to be recommended by dermatologists and beauty editors is Cetaphil. The cleanser ($13.99) is effective and gentle for all skin types. The moisturizer ($13.99) is hydrating and they even make one with SPF 15 ($16.99). Cetaphil is reasonably priced and can be found in most grocery, big chain and drug stores.
Once you find the best products for your skin, come up with a routine and stick to it. Maintaining the routine is key to the products working. If anyone wants a post dedicated to skin care we would love to help you out! Just let us know in the comments below or on Instagram!
Prime Your Canvas
Once you have your skincare worked out, let’s put some makeup on that gorgeous face! We are going to share some ideas about how to create your five minute face with confidence. Let’s take it slow from the most essential and build on that. After performing your skincare routine and in lieu of foundation, which can be heavy, try a skin primer. Skin primers work to blur your skin and allows for your makeup to apply more smoothly making your whole look appear more polished. We suggest Smashbox’s Photo Finish Pore Minimizing Primer, $39.00. The primer not only help create a smooth base for makeup application but it makes pores look invisible.
At this point if you feel like you need to use concealer to cover up blemishes or dark circles this would be the time to use it. The last thing you should do to prepare your face for color cosmetics is curl your lashes with an eyelash curler. You may think that this is an unnecessary step but trust us, it’s super important. Curling your lashes will make you look more bright-eyed and primes your lashes for mascara if you decide to use it.
Spring for Color
Now on to color! Spring is such a great time to play around with color. Pastels and shimmery shades are particularly beautiful this time of year. Starting with blush is a great was to get a fresh look in a flash. Cream blushes are easy to use and are really blendable allowing you to build up the color making it as sheer or as pigmented as you want. The Beauty Crop Blush Duo ($10.00) contains a cream blush and a highlighter giving you a two for one punch. Using your fingers ,apply the coral cream blush to the apples of your cheeks and spruce up cheekbones with a dab of the peachy highlighter. Another quick trick using cream based products is using an eyeshadow pencil instead of powder shadow. They are easier to swipe on and blend, and it will not fluff all over your cheeks like powder eyeshadow. We suggest a subtle shimmery beige like this one from Love of Color called “Champagne Problems”. In a pinch, you can get double-duty out of the shadow pencil by using it as a highlighter when you want to glow.
Tie it Together
Lastly, address your lips. Lip color is a very personal choice so do what make you feel most comfortable. For some of us that’s a tinted lip balm like this one from Arrow ($14.00), for others it’s a strong red lip or maybe you are strictly a chapstick girl. A bold lip and soft eye is such a powerful and easy to create look that can take you from the office to happy hour.
Just remember to consider the amount of maintenance your selection requires and decide if you are willing to dedicate the time to reapplying it throughout the day.
By no means is this a complete list of everything you need or should use. Get into a cosmetics store that allows you to sample and play around with different products in order to find what works best for you. Once you narrow your products down, and know going in what look you are creating on a daily basis, getting ready will be a snap.
